About 99 Uitgevers/Publishers

99 Uitgevers/Publishers is a publishing house that issues quality books concerning art, photography, design and literature.

Starting point
The company originates from and cooperates closely with a studio for graphic design, Mart. Warmerdam in Haarlem, Holland. This firm handles many assignments from national museums and the service industries. Gradually an extensive network of creative professionals has been established, including museums, galleries, copywriters, editors, media advisors and experts in the graphic trade. The collaboration with several of these has been quite steady and long-lasting.

In our opinion an appealing and well-designed publication still needs an effective platform to attract customer attention. Our capability to advise in matters of business positioning, marketing and financing where books are concerned, and the creative solutions we are able to offer, are often highly regarded by our clients. In short: items which others pass by, consciously or by neglect, may be a worthwile challenge for us.

We generally work by commission. For example, an artist initiates a stimulating project that he or she wants published in printed form. Or there is a museum that requires a publication to accompany an exhibition. It might even be a business or non-profit organisation that searches for striking ways to distinguish itself through a statement in print. But we develop initiatives on our own account as well, if we consider them relevant and expect there to be a feasible market.

Publishing books – or having them published – is a costly and hazardous enterprise. We therefore cast a critical eye upon your chances for success. But when we do embrace any project, we do so with a maximum of attention, strongly committed and getting very personally involved. Because we keep our working methods and organisation lean and flexible, we avoid a lot of overhead and are consequently more competitive in terms of expenses.

This year we will again participate in the KunstRAI Art Amsterdam, which lasts from Thursday 18 to Monday 22 April – a day longer than usual (2nd Easter day)! You can find us at booth 24. We show work by four artists.

Roos Holleman will be represented with a special edition entitled An Inordinate Fondness, on the occasion of her book The Center of Attention, to be published in April. We’ll show a monumental painting plus a multiple of Jan Maarten Voskuil, in response to the publication in March of his monograph Round Trip. Robert Zandstra will be represented with a series of drawings in response to the leporello Stage of Being, which was published in September 2018. Finally we’ll show new paintings by Seet van Hout.
